Winemakers

Since that first Simply Shiraz in 2005, we have been proactive establishing the best person to make our wine in Mudgee.

Your wine has been made at Robert Stein Winery on Pipeclay Lane since 2006 and the current vintage is maturing in the barrel now.

Andrew Stein, the founder’s son, and grandson Jacob have continued the development of the their range of wines into a well established and successful Mudgee brand. With a total crush of 350 tonnes, contract wine making has become a major part of the business.

Jacob is a young man of 26 with a wide range of experience completing many vintages overseas and in Australia. His travels have taken him to Germany, Italy, Canada as well as Margaret River in WA and the Pyrenees in Victoria. He has made wine with many grape varieties and thinks Mudgee is one of the greatest places to grow Shiraz.

The knowledge that Jacob brings to the job of making Simply Shiraz wine will broaden and modernize techniques for the age-old production protocols of “dryland” fruit.” Dryland fruit has to be treated differently to irrigated fruit, smaller berries means concentrated fruit, more tannins and more flavour. Simply Shiraz has been producing great wines every year and I am happy that I can be involved with their vineyard”

Louisa's Vineyard

Louisa’s Vineyard has been gradually developed since 1992 by Di and Andrew Wormald. The vineyard is located on Henry Lawson Drive, right next door to the site of the original home of Henry Lawson’s family. The original blocks of Shiraz and Black Muscat were planted by the Roth family, once owners of Craigmoor, in the late 1960’s. The fruit that they produce is only irrigated by nature, “dryland”, and is a regular contributor to the “Black Shiraz” wine produced by Montrose.

The Wormalds are passionate about their work. They believe in quality rather than quantity and hand pick their crop. The fruit is “appellation” and, consistent with the philosophy of Simply Shiraz, Di and Andrew provide very high quality input at every level to ensure we produce the very best possible fruit for our wine.
