In 2002 a few friends who are interested
in wine, got together for the purpose of having their
own Mudgee wine made. This involved finding a grower who would
sell small quantities of grapes and a maker who would
turn those grapes into wine. Of course we wanted the
best grapes and the best wine maker!
Later that year Andrew Wormald agreed
to let us have (at market price) 1 tonne of his "super
premium" grapes and a local wine maker said he would make
the wine for us. Since that time the members of the
syndicate have increased substantially - we now have
two winemakers and we still buy our super premium grapes
from Andrew.
In addition to the 2003 vintage which
was our first, we have also completed the 2004 vintage
(i.e. the wine has been bottled) and we have also picked
the 2005 vintage.
Given the enthusiasm of the members we
have decided to expand the membership further than a group
of friends. This enables us to have better buying
power for fruit as well as with the wine maker(s). The
wine, at around $10.00 per bottle is exceptional value
for a wine that would sell for closer to $20.00 or better
in Mudgee.
